Hello Dear Friends, Seekers and Cultural Creatives,
Refusal to Halt Planetary Destruction Will ‘Never, Ever Be Forgiven.’
UN Climate Chief, COP30 Meeting 11/10/2025
In 1947, The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists unveiled The Doomsday Clock as an expression of how close civilization’s dangerous technology is to destroying our world. A select group of globally recognized leaders, called the “Science and Security Board (SASB)” adjusted the Clock with a specific focus on nuclear risk, climate change, and disruptive technologies.
When the image of the Clock was first introduced, the greatest danger to humanity came from the threat of nuclear weapons, specifically focusing on the arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union. At that time, the hands were set at 7-minutes to midnight, representing the time of the anticipated apocalypse. The movement of the Clock’s hands are based upon events that either push humanity closer to or further from a nuclear apocalypse.
Between 1947 and 2007 the minute hand on the Doomsday Clock has been adjusted 26 times (see the Clock’s history). Sometimes the hands are moved backwards toward safety when global changes move more toward peace, such as when the nuclear non-proliferation treaty was signed by global nations, or when the fall of the Berlin Wall ended the Cold War in 1990. At other times, the hands are set closer to midnight when global dangers arise, such as the Vietnam War in the late 60’s, when India first tested their nuclear device in 1974, and Korea tested their nukes in 2007.
The most recent setting of the Clock on January 28, 2025, moved its arms to 89 seconds before midnight. The Science and Security Board sent a stark message: Because the world is already perilously close to the precipice, a move of even a single second should be taken as an indication of extreme danger and an unmistakable warning that every second of delay in reversing course increases the probability of global disaster.
The biggest impediment to civilization’s survival is the Darwinian notion that competition is the driving force behind evolution. The theory’s “survival of the fittest” is one of most destructive influences that is currently driving humanity to the precipice of extinction. The most serious aspect of this directive is that it is a “win at any cost” directive, devoid of moral constraints. The reason is that the phrase is interpreted as a drive for personal advancement and not concerned with either its impact on the rest of civilization or the vitality of the biosphere.
Civilization’s “winners” are judged in terms of having the “most toys,” which in today’s world is represented by money … hence, Darwinian success is motivated by the greed that drives the “success” of the 1%. In contrast, the profound insight offered by the Theory of Conscious Evolution is that evolution is not based on the behavior of individuals, it is predicated on the integration and influence of the whole community in how they relate to the harmony of the biosphere.
Currently, civilization requires the resources of 1.6 planet Earths to provide for today’s way of life. Since we have only one Earth, where does the public find the extra 0.6 planetary resources?? Civilization is pillaging the planet’s resources and undermining the environment to support an unsustainable way of life. In the process human endeavors have polluted the air, water, and land, behaviors that have increased species extinction a hundred times greater than normal background extinctions.
The history of human dominion over Nature has undermined the web of life and brought civilization to the precipice of mass extinction. A NASA sponsored study has highlighted the prospect that global industrial civilization will likely collapse in coming decades due to unsustainable resource exploitation and increasingly unequal wealth distribution.
These considerations are the reason the hands of the Doomsday Clock have been moved forward toward our midnight destiny with apocalypse. Over history the Clock’s hands have moved both forward and backwards based on actions of human civilization. This movement of the Clock’s hands reveal that collapse can be avoided IF the population can reach a steady state by reducing the rate of depleting Nature’s resources to a sustainable level, AND, if planetary wealth is redistributed more equitably among the population.
The question as to whether civilization will survive as species will be determined by the path we take as the global chaos breaks down challenges imposed by the status quo, offering humans an opportunity to create a more sustainable society. I personally believe our world will flourish if we dismantle the current Darwinian nightmare and begin to adhere to the harmony offered in my upcoming book, The Theory of Conscious Evolution.
With Planetary Peace, Love, and Light,
Bruce

Bruce’s Spotlight
Years of lecturing around this beautiful planet have provided me an opportunity to encounter wonderful Cultural Creatives that are helping to bring harmony into the world. Each month, I want to honor these cultural creatives by sharing with you the gifts they have shared with me.

This month, in the spirit of giving thanks, I’d like to spotlight this song, For Giving (Ho’oponopono), by Annie May Willis. May it bring you peace. Enjoy!
